3 - 5pm: “Abundance and Need in our Local Food System”

A panel of local food system experts will lead a discussion about the opportunities within Chester County, which 100 years ago was known as "the bread basket of Philadelphia."  Chester County is rich in wealth and prime agricultural soils, yet only a small percentage of our food comes from local sources.  This panel will examine how we can overcome the barriers that prevent us from having access to a greater abundance of fresh, local produce.

  • Come take part in this Community Conversation
  • FREE and open to the public
  • Handmade cups and mugs donated by regional artists will be for sale (cash or check only)
  • 100% of proceeds will go to the Chester County Gleaning Program to help support an organization that supplies healthy food to those with the greatest need

Overlapping Exhibits at the Historical Society

We are pleased to announce that in conjunction with the Down to Earth events the Chester County Historical Society there is an antique mugs, cups and pitchers from their collection on display through February. The pearlware mug pictured above, with its ode to a farmer, is an example of the Historical Society’s unique collection.

Entrance to this Historical Society’s exhibitions during both programs will be free of charge so do not miss the opportunity to view their outstanding permanent collection, explore the History Lab (an interactive activity area geared toward young people) and view the current exhibit What is Open Space? (October 24, 2008 - August 1, 2009),  made possible in part through the support of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Chester County Planning Commission. This timely and food systems-related exhibition examines the history of open space and land use in Chester County.
